COVID cases in SA
There have been 654 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 3,640 active cases in South Australia.
Sadly, SA Health can confirm a woman in her 80s and a man in his 80s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 2 September 2022 and 5 September 2022.
There are 83 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including seven people in ICU. Of those hospitalised, 60 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 21 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and two have an unknown vaccination status.
Changes to COVID reporting
From Friday 9 September, SA Health will cease the daily COVID-19 Update in line with reporting practices in other states. A COVID-19 report including case numbers, hospitalisations, deaths and testing rates, will instead be provided on a weekly basis, starting Friday 16 September. SA Health will continue to provide additional public advice to the community, as required.
Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants
The latest genome sampling has found 2.2% of samples analysed were BA.2, 5.6% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 89.9% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing
Yesterday, 4,408 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 5.6% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 304 PCR tests were positive, while 350 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.
