COVID cases in SA

There have been 1,853 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 14,131 active cases in South Australia.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm four people who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths include a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 80s, a woman in her 90s and a man in his 80s. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 25 July 2022 to 7 August 2022.

There are 341 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 11 people in ICU and two of those ventilated. Of those hospitalised, 218 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 96 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 27 have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 11% of samples analysed were BA.2, 11% of samples analysedwere BA.4 and 77.9% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 6,543 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is an 18.4% increase on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 875 PCR tests were positive, while 978 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update

Currently 96.1% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.2% havereceived their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 74.7% ofeligible South Australiansand 70.3% of South Australians aged 16+.
