South Australia Police implore motorists to take extra care after serious crashes

South Australia has experienced five serious crashes in the past 36 hours, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices as challenging weather conditions hit the state.

“These five crashes are a stark reminder of how quickly your life can change, either as a result of your behaviour, or another person’s behaviour behind the wheel,” said Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott.

“People are taking far too many risks on the road.”

Yesterday police attended road crashes on the Limestone Coast, Victor Harbor Road and Strathalbyn. Police are currently attending a serious crash Truro, involving a single vehicle rollover.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning with conditions persisting through to Saturday. There are damaging winds forecasted for Adelaide and surrounding areas, as well as rain.

“This weekend we’re asking motorists to adhere to road rules and adapt their driving to the road conditions, especially with bad weather forecast and those returning from school holiday breaks. We are imploring everybody to take extra care on our roads.”

The return to school on Monday will see traffic volumes around school zones increase.

SAPOL will conduct Operation Return to School on Monday and Tuesday, which will see increased police presence in these areas, focusing on the safety of children and pedestrians. Drivers are reminded to be extra vigilant around schools, to conform to speed limits in place and watch for unpredictable behaviour from young pedestrians.
