The Mental Health Coalition of South Australia welcomes news that South Australia’s new Urgent Mental Health Care Centre will be delivered by local community mental health service provider NEAMI with RI International.
This much needed centre is the first of its kind in Australia while similar models have been operating for a number of years in the United States.
It will provide a high quality alternative to the Emergency Department and has been developed based on strong feedback from the experiences of people with mental illness and their families as well as clinicians.
Being delivered as part of the South Australia’s 2020-2025 Mental Health Services Plan it also links crisis care with suicide prevention strategies.
This world class model of care will include 50% peer workers on every shift, people will not be isolated in cubicles with private lounge type rooms created
