- Seven South West projects to receive $562,602 Regional Economic Development Grant funding
- Cook Government investing in agriculture, hospitality and manufacturing businesses across the region
Seven South West projects will share in $562,602 funding under Round 6 of the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program.
The RED Grants program is a Cook Government initiative investing $50.85 million over nine years toward locally driven projects that build regional business resilience and diversify the economy.
Among the successful recipients is Alpine Laundry, who will use their $150,000 grant to expand their linen cleaning services across the South West.
The funding will be used to purchase new equipment to increase washing capacity, particularly for tourism providers who currently need to have their linen washing transported to Perth and back.
Future expansion will also allow Alpine Laundry to tender for large hospital contracts, which cannot currently be undertaken at any commercial laundry in the region.
Kingston Rest Farm has been awarded $100,000 towards the development of a large-scale indoor sheep feedlot, to address demand from V&V Walsh in Bunbury to provide a consistent year-round supply of prime lamb for export.
The project will expand options for animal husbandry in the area, produce cleaner animals for processors and capture manure that can be sold as fertilizer.
South West Hops has been awarded $99,392 to increase the growth of hops on their farm through the introduction of a new processing plant.
The new infrastructure and equipment, along with its availability to other hops growers, will assist in the expansion of this industry, while also significantly increasing the capacity of the applicant to supply both fresh and pelletised hops to South West brewers.
A $64,485 grant to Boyup Brook Hotel will assist with a comprehensive redevelopment to reopen the kitchen, restaurant, bar and accommodation facilities to the public.
The project will see 10 guest rooms redeveloped to service the increased demand for accommodation by contractors, essential workers and tourists in the area.
Successful projects in Round 6 will diversify and enhance capacity in agriculture, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors across the region.
