Andrews’ COVID-19 fines fall flat
Confirmation that Victorians continue to avoid paying COVID-19 related fines yet again, highlights the failure of Daniel Andrews enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions.
Yesterday at PAEC, Chief Commissioner Shane Patton confirmed that Victoria Police had issued a total of 39,985 COVID-19 related fines, of which 4,869 had been withdrawn and only 2,806 (7.01%) had been paid in full.
These figures follow on from October when only around 4 per cent of issued fines had been paid, and despite 3,455 fines having reached their “notice of final demand stage” at this time.
Throughout COVID-19, Daniel Andrews’ failure to set and enforce fair and consistent enforced lockdown rules left frontline police confused, and the community second guessing themselves.
As stated by Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, David Southwick:
“With almost twice as many fines withdrawn as have actually been paid, the confusion and inconsistency of Labor’s COVID rules couldn’t be clearer.
“Given ongoing legal challenges, rule backflips and inconsistent enforcement, is it any wonder why so many Victorians are refusing to pay?
“Daniel Andrews has failed on COVID enforcement and left frontline police to clean up his mess and the broader community second guessing themselves.”
