GENEVA – The Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, Ashwini K.P. began an official visit to Brazil today. The visit will conclude on 16 August 2024.
The Special Rapporteur will assess progress and challenges in achieving racial equality and eliminating racial discrimination, including systemic racism. She will assess key trends and issues and examine legislative, policy and institutional frameworks in place in Brazil.
The expert will visit Brasilia, Salvador, São Luís, São Paulo, Florianópolis and Rio de Janeiro, where she will meet with federal and state authorities, individuals from racial and ethnic groups, civil society organisations, service providers, academics, and other stakeholders.

The Special Rapporteur will present a report summarising her visit and making recommendations to the Brazil to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2025.
