Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud has appointed the first Special Representative for Australian Agriculture.
Minister Littleproud said the appointment of Ms Su McCluskey was part of an Australian Government program to boost Australia’s presence and influence in agricultural institutions that shape farmers’ access to export markets.
“Access to export markets is vitally important to Australian farmers and regional Australia.” Minister Littleproud said.
“Ms McCluskey will promote Australia’s commitment to the rules-based order for agricultural trade and our leadership in science and risk-based decision-making.
“She will work with industry, research organisations and government to promote Australia’s efforts and achievements in sustainability and agricultural innovation.
“Farmers, agri-businesses, consumers and our regions win when we have rules and standards that ensure imports and exports are safe, clean and sustainably produced.
“Australian farming is underpinned by some of the best innovation and sustainability practices in the world, we should be out their loudly and proudly promoting that fact.”
“Ms McCluskey has a strong history within the Australian agriculture sector and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in risk-based systems and regulatory frameworks.
“Australian agriculture will benefit from her strong voice and advocacy at major international meetings, conferences and the agricultural multilateral institutions.”
Special Representative for Australian Agriculture Ms Su McCluskey said she was looking forward to advocating for Australian agriculture.
“I’m proud to take on this new role and support Australian agriculture on the world stage,” Ms McCluskey said.
“As producers of clean, reliable and premium produce, based on sustainability and innovation, we have much knowledge to share and new markets to develop.
