A man has been arrested for numerous traffic offences following a crash at Tungkillo in the Adelaide Hills.
Just before midnight on Tuesday 21 April, a Murray Bridge patrol spotted a small red Ford hatchback speeding east on Adelaide Road through the intersection of Swanport Road (major intersection of Murray Bridge) at an estimated speed of 120km/h in the local 50 km/h zone.
The patrol attempt to use lights and sirens to stop the speeding car, but the driver refused it was last seen heading east over the river. The patrol didn’t pursue the speeding car due to safety reasons.
About an hour later Murray Bridge police received information the same car was also driving erratically through the Mannum area with a flat tyre.
Just on 2am this morning, police received information of a crash at Tungkillo in the Adelaide Hills, after a car hit a tree on Randell Road.
On patrols attendance they discovered the same small red Ford hatch that was seen speeding at Murray Bridge with extensive damage to the front end.
The driver and only occupant of the car, a 43-year-old man from Chain of Ponds had minor injuries and was taken to the Murray Bridge Hospital for treatment.
A short time ago he was released from hospital and was arrested for traffic offences including driving at a speed dangerous to the public, fail to stop for police and driving without due care.
Police investigations continuing, the arrested man has been refused police bail and will appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court later today.
The man’s 2004 Ford Festiva was extensively damaged in the crash and was towed from the scene.
