Two motorbike riders will face court after they were caught travelling at nearly 80km/h over the signed speed limit this morning at Cudlee Creek.
Just after 8.30am Sunday 9 December a static speed camera operator alerted police after he clocked two motorbikes travelling along Cudlee Creek Road at 158km/h and 155km/h in an 80km/h zone. The static speed camera operator reported that the motorbikes allegedly had their number plates obscured, but he was able to provide a detailed description of the pair to police.
Hills patrols attended the area and located the motorbikes and their riders at a nearby service station in Woodside. The riders, a 37-year-old from Sheidow Park and a 25-year-old from Morphett Vale were reported for riding at a speed dangerous and obscuring registration plate. Their motorbikes were impounded for 28 days and they will be summonsed to appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police would like to remind riders that motorcyclists are considered vulnerable road users and vehicles that travel above the posted speed limit are more likely to be involved in a serious crash – analysis of crashes last year showed that in 41 per cent of fatal crashes, excessive speed was considered a contributing factor.
