  • Partnerships reduce the presence of unhealthy sponsors
  • The McGowan Government today announced $685,000 has been awarded to rugby league, racing and surfing events to create healthy clubs and events.

    The McGowan Government, through Healthway, will continue to work with these high-profile sport and racing organisations to promote and educate the community about health messages, such as Fuel to Go & Play, Make Smoking History and Drug Aware.

    The successful applicants include:

    • $275,000 to NRL WA over the next two years to continue promoting healthy eating to metropolitan rugby league clubs and expand to regional clubs in the Pilbara, Kimberley, South West, and the Great Southern;
    • $180,000 to the Make Smoking History Targa Cup series 2022-2023;
    • $130,000 to the Make Smoking History Forest Rally 2022-2023; and
    • $100,000 to the 2022 Margaret River Pro WA to promote the Drug Aware health message.

    These partnerships will reduce the presence of unhealthy sponsors, increase the availability of healthy food and drinks and encourage healthy eating habits.

    The campaigns will also educate on the adverse health consequences of drug use and smoking, and provide links to local organisations that can provide support around mental health.
