The Allan Labor Government is making a landmark investment in Gippsland’s sporting infrastructure, with huge upgrades to four popular facilities in the area making sure more Gippslanders can play and watch their favourite sports.
Minister for Sport Steve Dimopoulos today visited Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium in Traralgon to announce the Gippsland Sports Package, which is delivering four projects across the region as part of the Labor Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium is one of 15 world-class sporting facilities across the state to see major upgrades to the venue, including upgrades to four playing courts and new lighting and technology for broadcasting.
More players will benefit from upgrades to changroom and toilets while new solar panels and skylights will ensure this project provides players have the facilities they need to succeed for generations to come.
From elite soccer to live music, the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park is a major sport and entertainment hub for the region – used by Melbourne Victory and for wrestling tournaments, concerts, expos and more.
A major upgrade will deliver a new pavilion and upgraded pitches complete with lighting and increased visitor capacity, boosting local jobs and businesses and the region’s economy as thousands of visitors flock to Gippsland to see their favourite sport and entertainment stars.
The Gippsland Sports Package is also delivering two more sports venue upgrades in Gippsland – including the Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe, which will benefit from a refurbished oval, lighting, amenities, and terraces while the Morwell Gun Club will also be boosted by a new shotgun trap shooting range and safety upgrades.
These projects will help increase sports participation among the Gippsland community and bring more elite sport to regional Victoria, supporting local businesses.
Further updates on the projects will be provided in the coming months, with first works to kick off later this year. For more information about the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, visit .
