Spotlight on Barossa villages, townships & trails

Barossa Council

The Villages, Townships and Trails project is a $20,000 initiative of Council and seeks to drive visitor dispersal through the development of enticing and engaging new digital and print marketing material including maps, inspirational videos, and suggested itineraries.

This latest collaboration between Council and Tourism Barossa engages volunteer town groups and committees and encourages them to play their part by supporting regional marketing activations to help stimulate the visitor economy. The project also appeals for people to explore the Barossa, one town at a time.

The townships, villages and trails supported in the project include Angaston, Tanunda, Nuriootpa, Southern Barossa (Lyndoch, Williamstown), Eden Valley, Bethany to Vine Vale trail and Mount Pleasant.

Tourism Barossa’s PR and Marketing Manager, Taryn Wills said Tourism Barossa invested an additional $13,000 into the project with a large portion going towards mapping and itinerary building software housed on Barossa.com

“The project was a great example of stakeholders working together to support volunteer committees and business operators. We recognise the strength of our volunteers and town community groups as well as the active role they play in promoting the region,” said Taryn.

“This project is a way that we (Council and Tourism) can support them to leverage and promote their attractions and tourism products with the overarching goal to encourage visitation and experiential tourism.

“There is an incredible depth and richness of tourism experiences on offer across individual towns, not to mention the people, places and stories that add to Barossa’s appeal as a premier tourism destination.”

Jo Seabrook, The Barossa Council Manger Tourism Services, whose Visitor Centre Team in Tanunda field hundreds of enquiries a day on where to go, what to see and do while in the region, said the new maps, videos and itineraries are an incredibly valuable and sought-after tool.

“We are excited to have a comprehensive and consistent suite of material covering every pocket of the Barossa that our team can use to promote visitation, dispersal and extended stays.

“The Barossa is much more than a day trip destination. Our townships and villages all have amazing and diverse visitor experiences and each with their own unique charm and character to be explored and discovered.

“We are proud to have been able to work collaboratively with representatives from each of the town groups together with the Tourism Barossa team to deliver on what has been a significant project.”

The Villages, Townships and Trails project will be actively promoted through ongoing regional destination marketing campaigns and direct to consumers and visitors through the Barossa Visitor Centre.

In addition, a full suite of marketing material will be made available to each town group to support future marketing initiatives creating opportunity for individual towns to promote their own attractions, businesses and tourism experiences.
