Tokyo Tech’s Graduation Ceremonies for academic year 2023 were held on March 26, 2024 at Ookayama Campus. Bachelor’s degree recipients were acknowledged in the morning, while master’s and doctoral graduates were honored in the afternoon.
This spring, Tokyo Tech conferred 167 doctoral degrees, 1,653 master’s degrees, 25 professional master’s degrees, and 1,041 bachelor’s degrees.
Joining the graduates at their respective ceremonies were President Kazuya Masu, members of the board, deans and directors, family members, and friends. Special guests included Tokyo Tech Alumni Association Director Nobuhiro Endo (Class of 1980, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Engineering) and alumnus Takahiro Inagawa (Class of 2012, Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Engineering), the CEO of Interstellar Technologies Inc., both of whom gave congratulatory speeches.
Members of the Tokyo Institute of Technology Orchestra and Chor Kleines, an official student chorus group, were also present after a four-year hiatus to guide the audience in the singing of the Tokyo Tech Song.
During his speeches, Masu congratulated the newest Tokyo Tech graduates for their achievements and shared a story about the Institute’s long-standing efforts to circulate talent and technology. “I believe the ability to create such far-reaching impact also lies within each of you, just as it did in your Tokyo Tech forerunners. I look forward to witnessing the unique ways in which each of you decide to leave your mark,” the president said.
In their brief addresses, alumni Endo and Inagawa also offered their congratulations and shared motivating messages regarding the future.
After the guest speeches, bachelor’s and master’s degrees were presented to representatives of each cohort of graduating students. All attending doctoral degree students received their diplomas individually from Masu. At the ceremony for bachelor’s degree recipients, students with outstanding academic achievements also received the 2023 Tokyo Institute of Technology Academic Excellence Award.
The valedictorians for each cohort also offered messages of gratitude and hope to the president, Tokyo Tech faculty members, fellow students, and the broader community. Miki Fujiyama, a Systems and Control Engineering graduate, spoke in the morning. Kazuki Naganuma, a doctoral program graduate from the Department of Computer Science, spoke in the afternoon.
To wrap up the morning ceremony, Asuka Hirano, a 3rd-year student in Life Science and Technology, gave a short farewell speech on behalf of the current students. Koki Yanagida, a 2nd-year doctoral student in Mathematics, offered similar words of gratitude to graduates in the afternoon ceremony.
The Tokyo Tech community wishes all the newest graduates continued health and success.
