The Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury & New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre has had a whirlwind 2022 – and is gearing up for 2023 to be even better.
Following the successful bid to be part of a US$4 million dollar grant from the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Football League , SPRINT Director A/Prof David Opar’s has continued to be in demand in North America. He was recently invited to present at the High Performance Summit hosted by Major League Soccer (MLS) team Sporting Kansas City, which attracted delegates from multiple countries. During the Trip A/Prof Opar was also able to visit and , two key industry partners for SPRINT based in the US. A/Prof Opar will return to the US in March as an invited speaker for the .
Concurrently, SPRINT deputy-director Prof Shona Halson was invited to attend the Women’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Basketball Association (WNBA) Performance Summit, hosted by the Nike Sports Research Lab (picture below). Prof Halson spoke about sleep and recovery in the WNBA. Shona was one of 4 invited speakers, with ACU MHPS alumni Jo Clubb also invited to present on monitoring in athletes.
Reflecting on 2022, we have welcomed back opportunities to connect and collaborate in person, for the first time since before the pandemic. Looking forward to 2023 and beyond, SPRINT is prioritising strengthening our existing relationships with industry partners, engaging new opportunities and ultimately improve ACU’s visibility as a world leader in exercise science.
