Daniel Andrews is still hiding the true cost of his Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) after failing to detail it in yesterday’s financial statement.
Over 100 days ago, he promised to release the full costs before the election. On Tuesday, he dodged 24 questions about the cost.
A Parliamentary Budget Office report says it will cost at least $125 billion to build, driving the state even deeper into debt.
Damningly, yesterday’s financial statement didn’t even say what their debt would be, not a line, not a word.
The fact is that Labor did not detail the cost of the SRL because they knew it would blow out their debt, and they knew that if they detailed the overall debt, then it would reveal just how much the actual cost of the SRL really is
In summary, Labor is hiding the cost of the SRL and hiding the cost of their debt.
RedBridge research released this morning shows why Labor is burying the SRL and debt figure with 46 per cent of people saying it wasn’t worth the money, while another 14 per cent said they were unsure. Only 14 per cent ranked the SRL as the state’s most important project.
Labor is addicted to debt and like any addict is trying to hide their habit.
Under the Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s economic plan, debt will be $10 billion less than Labor’s by 2025/26.
We will shelve the Box Hill to Cheltenham leg of the SRL and redirect that money to fix the ailing health system.
