St Marys Lights Up Brightens Winter

Returning for its third year, Penrith City Council’s St Marys Lights Up carnival-style event will transform Queen Street in St Marys into a winter playground.

On Saturday 15 June from 4-9pm, Council’s event will host a range of activities, including free amusement rides, activities for young children and teenagers, entertainment and a variety of food trucks complementing the restaurants open along Queen Street.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney was thrilled for the event to return and praised its previous success at providing an opportunity for community members and visitors to enjoy the best of St Marys.

“Last year, we adapted St Marys Lights Up to a one-night carnival-style event with great success – and we’re excited to continue this night of fun,” Cr Carney said.

“With the current cost of living being what it is, we felt that an event like this allows families, individuals, and groups of friends the chance to experience a great night out in St Marys at a low cost. It was important that we provide an evening where all the entertainment is free, including the amusement rides.

“We also want to support our local businesses, and encourage residents to try the affordable restaurants that are open along Queen Street during the evening or a food truck.

“I hope everyone who attends has a great time out enjoying what St Marys has to offer,” he said.

Activities include roving performers such as hula hoopers and stilt walkers, a synthetic ice rink (sponsored by St Marys Town Centre), free amusement rides, creative circus and winter craft workshops (thanks to Western Sydney Airport Corporation), Council’s Play Van, Little Big Stage with fire breathing, magic shows and circus acts, and much more.

A range of food trucks will be available offering snacks and dinner treats – and some familiar faces are performing live music at Coachmans Park on stage.

St Marys Lights Up originally debuted as an event series in May 2022, which saw over 18,000 people attend over four nights.
