Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced details of Stage 2 of the landmark Bob Hawke College, which will double the school’s capacity to 2,000 students.
The $57.6 million Stage 2 will build on the $70.6 million facilities that opened to Year 7 students in February this year.
It will provide spaces for students to rehearse and showcase their creative talents, including a performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, music rooms and two state-of-the-art media studios.
Located on the northern end of Bob Hawke College’s Subiaco site, Stage 2 will also include general classrooms, a roof terrace and landscaped areas.
Hassell Studio has been appointed to consult on the design for this project, with construction set to commence in April 2021. Facilities are expected to open for the 2023 school year.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“Since it opened earlier this year, the world-class Bob Hawke College has provided an outstanding learning environment for students from inner-city communities.
“This has occurred during what has been a difficult school year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I congratulate all the staff, students and parents for their efforts during this time.
“Stage 2 of Bob Hawke College will see the school’s capacity grow to 2,000 students.
“The already magnificent school will be complemented by additional creative arts facilities as well as more classrooms, multi-purpose playing courts and a roof terrace.
“The construction will create an estimated 1,650 local jobs in areas such as carpentry, building, electrical and landscaping.
“This is important job-supporting infrastructure for WA, post the COVID-pandemic.
“The completion of Bob Hawke College will also fulfil an election commitment by the McGowan Government.
“Generally, we will continue to invest in school infrastructure throughout Western Australia state to ensure children receive the best possible education and that jobs are created for local people.”
