Campaspe Shire and Murray River Councils are inviting their communities to have their say on Stage 2 of the Echuca Moama Torrumbarry Flood Study Risk Management Plan Project.
The Risk Management Plan is the second stage of the Echuca Moama Torrumbarry Flood Study and Risk Management Plan Project. Commenced in 2018, the project is a partnership between the two councils, Victorian North Central Catchment Management Authority, Department of Environment Energy and Climate Action, and NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
In October 2023 the community was invited to provide input into the draft Flood Study Report. The next stage of the study follows the recent completion of the Flood Study Report which incorporates the feedback provided by the community. It will investigate mitigation works, development controls and a flood warning system.
To kick-off stage 2, the Project Team is hosting a series of community meetings to gain a better understanding of the types of mitigation measures the community would like investigated.
This is your opportunity to offer any further observations on past events and what could be done to reduce exposure to, and impacts of, future floods. This may include levees, temporary works, individual property protection and development controls.
Community members are invited to drop into any of the below sessions, noting that each time-slot has a particular area of focus:
Tuesday 30 January at the Murray River Council Offices, Perricoota Rd, Moama:
• 9.30 – 11.30 am: SES and other responders to the flood event,
• 12.30 – 2.30 pm: Moama and NSW side of Murray River,
• 4.00 – 6.00pm: Echuca East and Echuca Village
• 7.30 – 9.30pm: Echuca Central and West (Focus on Campaspe and Murray downstream of Wharf to Victoria Park),
Wednesday 31 January at the Campaspe Shire Offices, (Old Town Hall) corner High and Heygarth Streets, Echuca (diagonally opposite McDonalds):
• 9.30 – 11.00am: Downstream of the Campaspe junction through Torrumbarry.
