While the Glenfield Beach Drive Shared Path is being constructed detailed designs for stage 2 of the project, the $1.4 million 3.5km long Chapman Road Shared Path, are being finalised so construction can progress in 2022-23.

The Geraldton Cycling Network Expansion Project also includes a $2.62 million 4.5km shared path to be constructed on Brand Highway from Tarcoola Beach to Cape Burney.

The McGowan Government is facilitating investment of $347 million to upgrade and construct more high-quality infrastructure for safe and connected riding and walking across the State over the next four years.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“For more than a decade the community has been asking for an off-road shared path so they can safely ride, walk or scoot from Cape Burney in the south to Drummond Cove in the north.

“We know how important this is, which is why we committed to delivering upgrades to the Geraldton Walking and Cycling Network at the 2021 election.

“We are delivering more than $340 million of walking and cycling upgrades around Western Australia over the next four years, supporting local jobs and encouraging more people to walk and ride.”

As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:

“This project will see an additional 8.3 kilometres of high-quality path constructed and the Sunset Drive to Drummond Cove Shared Path become a reality for the community.

“This is a critical part of the City’s shared path network and with this work we will be expanding the cycling network.

“Community members often talk to me about how much they are looking forward to safe and accessible paths as it will provide them and their family with an alternative form of transport for work and recreation purposes.

“I am so proud to be a part of the McGowan Government that continues to deliver for regional WA.”
