Roger Jaensch,Minister for Housing
Alison Standen’s latest error-filled media release has again confirmed she has no credibility when it comes to housing in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Government’s record investment into affordable housing has delivered 758 new social houses since 2015, with 2038 additional households assisted into housing over the same period.
Contrary to Ms Standen’s wild claims, the January 2020 Report on Government Services data also confirmed that social housing numbers have actually increased since June 2014 and the latest Quarterly Housing Report shows we delivered over 400 social housing dwellings in the 12 months to April 2020.
Furthermore, our announcement today will facilitate construction of 2300 new dwellings while supporting thousands of jobs – an announcement which Labor had the audacity to complain about today in Parliament.
And, we recently announced a $4.3 million support package to expand housing and homelessness support services across the state. That’s on top of our existing works, with 18 new pods at Bethlehem House now taking tenants, 10 new units nearing completion at the Hobart Women’s shelter and work underway to convert the Waratah Hotel into a supported accommodation facility.
I would urge Ms Standen to stick to the facts in future and welcome our job-creating investment into social and affordable housing.
