State Government investment delivers new City of Bayswater skate park

  • New skate park and BMX facilities in the City of Bayswater officially opened
  • The $2.5 million facility was funded by the State Government
  • Existing facility was relocated to make way for new Morley Station car park as part of METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line
  • Facility includes the State’s biggest vertical ramp

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti has today officially opened a brand-new skate park and BMX facility in the City of Bayswater.

The $2.5 million facility was funded by the State Government and includes a new skate park, BMX track, shade shelter, viewing areas and picnic facilities.

The skate park features an extended bowl for riders of all skill levels and the largest vertical ramp in Western Australia.

The existing Wotton Reserve skate park was decommissioned and relocated to make way for the new Morley Station car park as part of the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

Works to deliver the new Morley Station multi-storey car park are progressing, and when completed, will make it easier for commuters to park and ride with 400 parking bays.

Earlier this year, the deconstruction of the Broun Avenue bridge over Tonkin Highway made way for a new, longer and wider structure to accommodate more traffic lanes and a bus interchange for the new station.

The new bus interchange will serve as a vital connection to the new Morley Station, located beneath the bridge.

Traffic will be switched to its final configuration next year, as works continue on the new Morley Station and bus interchange.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Right across our city and State, we are investing in major infrastructure projects, and we continue to work hard on minimising impacts to the community.

“The need to relocate the existing skatepark was disruptive, but I want to thank the community for their engagement on the project, and I have no doubt the new skate park and BMX facility will be even more popular than the original.

“Works continue to progress well on the entire METRONET Morley Ellenbrook Line, particularly near the Morley Station site where early works on the new carpark are underway, and the new Broun Avenue Bridge is nearing completion.

“We’re expecting traffic along the new Broun Avenue Bridge to switch to its final configuration early next year, which allows us to begin works on the new bus interchange – a critical connection to the new Morley Station.”

As stated by Morley MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The Wotton Reserve skate park was a much loved but ageing facility. It is a priority for me to deliver the best infrastructure to our local community.

“This skate park is one of the best in the State and I’m very proud to be part of delivering for our local community.”

As stated by Maylands MLA Lisa Baker:

“The skate park and BMX track will form part of a fantastic precinct, centred around the new Morley Train Station.

“Being situated alongside the new METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line, I am confident this new facility will also attract people from outside of the area, which will provide a boost to local businesses.”
