- WA has secured two more State of Origin matches in 2025 and 2028

Western Australia continues to be a global hub of blockbuster sport, with Perth set to host further NRL State of Origin series games in 2025 and 2028.
State of Origin is one of Australia’s biggest sporting events and will deliver thousands of visitors to WA while injecting millions into the local economy.
Previous State of Origin games at Optus Stadium have seen the venue packed out with crowds of around 60,000 and nearly 3 million tuning into watch the Blues versus Maroons.
It is estimated that a significant number of people will travel for the matches, with a combined total of nearly 20,000 out-of-state visitors coming to WA for the 2019 and 2022 State of Origin games.
The date for the matches and further details surrounding which games will be held in Perth are to be announced at a later stage.
The new State of Origin deal follows on from last night’s hugely successful NRL Double Header at Optus Stadium.
Around 45,000 NRL fans packed into the stadium to watch the Dolphins take on the Knights before the Rabbitohs faced-off with the Sharks in the Double Header on August 5.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“WA hosted a sell out event last year when we hosted the State of Origin here.
“It’s a great get to secure a pipeline of events with the additional two games.
“These major sporting events are significant economic drivers for our State, bringing people from all over to WA which means more people in our hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes and other tourism and hospitality businesses.”
As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
“Being able to host two more State of Origin clashes is another great win for tourism and sport within WA, plus an awesome opportunity to showcase our State across Australia.
“State of Origin is one of the country’s greatest sporting rivalries and bringing it back to WA is a big win for local NRL fans and those who want to experience the electric atmosphere.
“The WA Government continues to bring major sporting and tourism events to our shores with the award-winning Optus Stadium once again taking centre stage.”
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
“State of Origin is such a popular event and I am so pleased to hear that WA has secured another two matches.
“It is great for the game and for the grassroots players and clubs that will benefit from having their code showcased here in Perth.”
