State Recovery Advisory Group to guide WA’s COVID-19 recovery

  • State Recovery Advisory Group appointed to support State Government in WA’s recovery from COVID-19 pandemic
  • Group includes representatives from business, industry, not-for-profit organisations, UnionsWA, the public sector, local government and the community
  • State Government Ministers to lead industry stakeholder roundtable discussions to support development of State Recovery Plan and Impact Statement
  • The McGowan Government has established a top-level State Recovery Advisory Group to help lead Western Australia’s recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State Recovery Advisory Group includes representatives from business, industry, not-for-profit organisations, UnionsWA, the public sector, local government and the community.

The group will provide high level and strategic advice on the impacts of COVID-19 and help to guide the development of the State Recovery Plan.

It will provide valuable feedback to the State Government on ongoing and emerging challenges relating to COVID-19.

This will allow the Government and the State Recovery Controller, Sharyn O’Neill, to better understand the wide-ranging impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as help identify recovery opportunities for inclusion in the State Recovery Plan.

A draft Impact Statement will be released shortly to address each of the State’s recovery areas – health, economic and infrastructure, social, industry and regional WA.

A key part of developing the State Recovery Plan will include a series of Ministerial roundtable discussions with these key stakeholders, face-to-face and virtual, to gather feedback on the draft Impact Statement and to inform the State Recovery Plan.

The community will be able to contribute their ideas through iThink (WA Public Sector) at ithink.wa.gov.au. Find out more information at https://www.wa.gov.au

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“While these have been difficult and unprecedented times, Western Australians have done a terrific job in helping stop the spread of COVID-19.

“We acknowledge that this has been an extremely difficult time, particularly for WA small businesses and supporting them to get back on their feet will be an important part of our State’s recovery.

“The State Government has already delivered more than $1.8 billion in stimulus and economic relief measures, including payroll tax relief, waiving of fees and credits on electricity bills.

“We’re also fast-tracking infrastructure, including major road projects, with a focus on local procurement, to ensure we support local businesses and create more jobs for Western Australians.

“This will be further strengthened during the process of economic recovery. We’ve already seen a once in a lifetime amendment to WA’s planning rules – aimed at getting job-creating projects off the ground.

“Now with the State Recovery Advisory Group in place, Western Australia is well placed to move into the recovery phase, so we can rebuild our great State.

“This experienced and knowledgeable group will provide valuable insights to support the development of a strong State Recovery Plan.”

As stated by State Recovery Controller Sharyn O’Neill:

“The State Recovery Advisory Group is a partnership that will bring together the very best resources we have across this State, and we’ll be working constructively with business, industry, not-for-profits, unions, the public sector, local governments and the community.

“We have the people, the skills and the expertise to drive Western Australia’s economic recovery and the State Government will be working collaboratively with these groups in the weeks and months ahead.

“It is important for everyone to be unified behind the vision for recovery which is to get Western Australia back on the road to becoming a thriving and innovative community to live, work, visit and do business.”
