  • Instrumental in establishment of the Design WA Design Review Guide
  • Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has congratulated Western Australia’s Government Architect Geoff Warn who will complete his term in the role this week.

Mr Warn has held the role since 2013, and leaves the position at the end of an extended contract having been instrumental in the establishment of the State Design Review Panel.

The Office of the Government Architect under Mr Warn’s leadership has successfully collaborated with other Government agencies to develop and promote inspiring design policies, guidelines or objectives. The Design Review Guide – developed as part of the State Government’s Design WA initiative – will provide a lasting legacy of Mr Warn’s tenure as Government Architect.

WA Planning Commission Chairman David Caddy will serve as the interim Chair of the State Design Review Panel until a new permanent appointment is made.

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

“I thank Geoff for his excellent service as Western Australia’s Government Architect over the past seven years and as the inaugural Chair of the State Design Review Panel.

“It is clear that the expertise within the Government Architect position is widely used and highly valued in the delivery of major infrastructure and development projects across the State, including – under Geoff’s leadership – Optus Stadium, the new museum and the Murujuga Living Knowledge Centre on the Burrup Peninsula.

“Geoff has led the Office of the Government Architect through an era of exciting and transformational change. Both in his role as Government Architect and more recently as State Design Review Panel Chairman, he has made a significant contribution to driving good design outcomes across Western Australia.

“His dedication, advocacy and expertise are part of a lasting legacy of which he should be extremely proud.”
