South Australia Police was saddened to hear of the tragic death of retired SAPOL Assistant Commissioner; and former Northern Territory Police Commissioner, Paul White APM following a collision with motor vehicle while he was cycling on Sunday morning.
Paul was highly respected by both SA Police and the NT Police and will be remembered for his leadership, both in policing, and right across the community. His return to SA as the Liquor Licencing Commissioner saw him continue to work closely with SAPOL and have a positive impact on South Australia.
He started as a cadet with the South Australia Police in 1968 and spent most of his career as a detective, held in high regard. He held a number or executive positions as Assistant Commissioner from 1997, with the most prominent being when he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Crime Service.
Paul’s professionalism and commitment to policing was recognised when he was awarded the Australian Police Medal for distinguished service in 2000.
Paul had many close friends amongst current and retired police officers in SAPOL and will be sadly missed.
On behalf of the South Australia Police Executive Leadership Team and all SAPOL staff, I extend our condolences to Paul’s family, friends and colleagues.
