Statement From Premier 4 June

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Secretary of the Department of Justice, Ms Ginna Webster, has advised me of her intention to retire from the State Service.

Ms Webster is a long-term public servant having worked in both the Commonwealth and Tasmanian State Service for over four decades.

Returning home to Tasmania in 2002, Ms Webster has served in various roles including in justice, child and youth services and community services.

Ms Webster served as Secretary of the Department of Communities in 2018, before returning to the Department of Justice as Secretary in September 2019.

Ms Webster’s work most recently in the Department of Justice has put the Government in good stead to deliver our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

I would like to thank Ms Webster for her commitment and dedication to public service, both in Tasmania and across other jurisdictions and wish her all the best for the future.

Ms Webster will take a period of leave and will finish on 31 July 2024.

Quotes attributable to Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett:

“Ms Webster has been a strong and committed contributor to the State Service and I thank her for her dedication,” the Attorney-General said.

“Kristy Bourne will undertake the role of Acting Secretary of the Department of Justice while a thorough recruitment process takes place.”
