Statement On Chair Of Worksafe Victoria

  • Minister for Workplace Safety

The Government has been advised that Paul Barker will be stepping down as Chair of WorkSafe Victoria’s Board of Directors at the end of October.

Mr Barker was appointed Chair in September 2015. He previously served on the Board between 2001 and 2012 and was Deputy Chair between 2005 and 2012.

In his time at WorkSafe, Mr Barker oversaw the regulator’s move to its new Geelong headquarters.

Mr Barker also played a key role in the development of WorkSafe’s long-term strategy, recognising changing workplace environments and the need to provide improved health and safety outcomes for Victorian workers, who will number almost four million by 2030.

He previously served as Chair of the Transport Accident Commission, the Emergency Service Telecommunications Authority, VicForests, Stadium Operations Limited (Marvel Stadium), the Victorian Division of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Mirvac Funds Management.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I want to thank Mr Barker for his strong leadership at WorkSafe and the significant contribution he has made to the health and safety of workplaces across the state.

The appointment of a new Chair of WorkSafe’s Board is underway.
