The Executive of the NSW Nature Conservation Council has accepted, with regret, the resignation of Executive Officer Chris Gambian.
During his three years at the helm, Mr Gambian has made a significant contribution, strengthening the organisation and achieving significant wins for nature.
During his term, the NSW Government’s climate and energy policies have been transformed, with commitments to a net-zero target and a package of measures to accelerate a multi-billion-dollar energy sector transition.
NCC is now a powerful voice for water rights, especially campaigning in the Murray-Darling Basin, and has continued to press for an end deforestation by ceasing native forests logging and land clearing.
Chris has strengthened the role of NCC in the broader environment movement and forged robust ties across a range of civil society organisations and sectors, building new alliances and opening fresh channels of communication.
NCC is better equipped now to support its member groups and communities to organise themselves in the fight for environmental justice at local, state and federal levels.
Mr Gambian said:
“I am so lucky to have been part of a movement of conservation and climate groups, volunteers, donors and people who care so deeply about nature, water, climate and communities, and who give so much to make things a little better or a little fairer.”
The board is pleased to announce the appointment of Jacqui Mumford as Acting Chief Executive.
Ms Mumford has been with NCC for more than five years and brings a wealth of experience in the not-for-profit and government sectors.
Ms Mumford said:
“As a lifelong environmentalist, I am humbled to be offered this opportunity to lead such an important organisation.”
