Statement on the Office of the Independent Commission against Corruption

NT Government

The ICAC Commissioner is currently on leave.

The allegations raised in media relating to the ICAC Commissioner have been referred to the ICAC Inspector, and this process will inform next steps.

To ensure the continuity and stability of the Office of the ICAC, I am immediately requesting the Administrator to appoint the current Deputy ICAC, Ms Naomi Loudon, in the role as the Acting ICAC Commissioner.

Ms Loudon has acted in the role previously. She was formerly a crown prosecutor for the Director of Public Prosecutions, specialising in fraud and corruption. Ms Loudon has also been part of current investigations underway, and will be able to lead the office.

Ms Loudon is currently overseas on planned leave, which commenced prior to the allegations arising. She has been briefed on the matter and will formally commence official duties of the ICAC Commissioner from the 10th of June, upon her return.

The functions of the ICAC is made up of a team of people who will continue to operate over this period – and they will be independent to Government.

Given the important nature of the ICAC and its function to improve transparency and oversight, when the ICAC Inspector provides advice or recommendations on the situation relating to the ICAC Commissioner, we will provide an update to the community.
