Stay safe this Melbourne Cup weekend

DELWP

Due to the recent extreme weather, many tracks, trails and recreation sites across Victoria may be unsafe.

Our crews are working hard to assess storm impacts, however, there is a significant risk of falling trees, particularly with the wet and windy weather forecast over the coming days.

  • for park, site, road and track closures

  • download the VicEmergency app.

From 6 pm Friday 29 October all Victorians can travel to any part of the state, so have a backup in case your destination is crowded or closed. Visit the Victorian Government’s for up-to-date information.

If you have lost power, it’s important to stay safe

  • Keep clear of fallen powerlines and keep others away. The powerlines may still be live, so you should call your local electricity distributor.
  • Check your neighbour’s house to see if they have also lost power. If your neighbour has power on, then check to see if your safety switch has been tripped.
  • Avoid leaving open flames unattended.
  • Make sure appliances are turned off (because they could come back on when you are not there).
