The SBS relocation feasibility study will look at whether moving SBS headquarters from its current home at Artarmon on the lower north shore could help address inequality in infrastructure, skilled jobs and cultural investment in Western Sydney – something the Government is keen to tackle.
It will also assess the benefits of providing a co-located, multi-purpose space for content creation and public use and incorporate a competitive bidding process between local government areas to choose an optimal relocation site.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is leading the feasibility study, in collaboration with SBS.
Mr Mike Mrdak AO will fulfil the role of Chair, alongside committee members Ms Daryl Karp AM, Mr Mark Ramsey, Mr James Taylor and Ms Pauline Sullivan.
Both the department and SBS will also each have a member on the committee.
A preliminary finding on whether relocation is feasible (or not) is anticipated later this year.
