A program supporting a more active lifestyle and sustainability in the North West has received $100,000 from the Rockliff Liberal Government.
The Cradle Coast Authority is one of 26 community-led preventative health projects receiving a share of $2 million in funding through the latest Healthy Tasmania Fund round.
The ‘Step towards Sustainability’ project aims to get more people walking more often, facilitate people to have a stake in their community, improve urban landscapes and enhance awareness of the region’s ecology.
Liberal Member for Braddon Roger Jaensch said the Healthy Tasmania Fund is an important part of the Government’s Healthy Tasmania Five-Year Strategic Plan 2022-2026 to bring together communities, services and all levels of government to work in partnership for improved health and wellbeing.
“These grants are part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s plan to keep Tasmanians healthy and well,” Minister Jaensch said.
“I would like to congratulate the Cradle Coast Authority for this innovative project that will see activities take place across the North West, with pilots beginning in Burnie and Waratah-Wynyard councils.”
The Step towards Sustainability project includes activities to increase community participation, increase social inclusion for disadvantaged members of the community and increasing habitat value.
“I look forward to seeing the innovative ways the project encourages North West Tasmanians to live a more healthy and active lifestyle while also providing opportunities for people to get involved in the local community,” the Minister said.
Minister Jaensch said the Rockliff Liberal Government was proud to support organisations like the Cradle Coast Authority through the Healthy Tasmania Fund, with $8 million in funding committed over four years.
More than $770,000 in grant funding has already been awarded to almost 100 community-based preventive health initiatives through the fund.
Further funding opportunities are now available with the second round of Step Forward grants open. A second round of the Healthy Focus grants will also be offered in 2024.
