Still time to voice your concerns about Plasrefine

Wingecarribee Shire

As Consent Authority on this matter, The Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) invited Council to comment on an Amendment Report in relation to the Plastics Recycling Facility coming to Moss Vale. We will make our submission on November 16 once considered at the Council Meeting of November 15. Residents can still voice their views with the DPE for consideration, up until the time of determination.

Council requested an extension for the purpose of providing the submission to Council’s meeting scheduled on 15 November. The DPE advised that they required our submission by Wednesday 1 November. We were, however, granted an extension until 16 November to make our final submission once endorsed at the Council meeting of 15 November.

“Community members are encouraged to come along to that meeting,” says Wingecarribee Shire Council General Manager Lisa Miscamble. “Residents still have time to write to the DPE directly to voice their views and are advised that the DPE have stated that submissions can be made up until the date the SSD is determined.”

Under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 a project can be declared to be a State Significant Development (SSD), for economic, social or environmental reasons. The Plasrefine proposal has been deemed to be SSD.

Council has previously expressed concern about inconsistency with the adopted Moss Vale Enterprise Corridor Development Control Plan, inadequate provision of water, sewer and transport infrastructure, community health and amenity concerns, and the lack of a social impact statement. In response to all submissions received to date, the proponent revised their application and Council is currently preparing a further submission on this.

It is important for community members to understand that putting their views to Council isn’t the correct process in this case. To be taken into consideration, they must be submitted in writing to the NSW DPE.
