A man has been charged after 45 bonsai – alleged to be stolen – were recovered from a property in Sydney’s south-west.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports of plants being stolen from homes in the area.
Following inquiries, police attended a home on Prospect Road, Canley Vale, about 2.50pm last Friday (20 November 2020), and seized 45 bonsai plants from the backyard.
A 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime, and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.
The bonsai have an estimated value of $30,000.
The man has been granted strict conditional bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Friday 15 January 2020.
Police are now trying to match the recovered plants with their rightful owners; anyone who has had bonsai stolen is urged to contact Fairfield City Police Area Command on (02) 9725 8999. Proof of ownership will be needed.
