A driver will face court today after allegedly crashing a stolen ute multiple times at Hindmarsh yesterday afternoon.
Just before 3.30pm, Sunday 9 July police were called to Port Road, Hindmarsh after reports a white Nissan ute had crashed into a Stobie pole and the driver had run off into nearby parklands.
At the same time, a five-vehicle crash was reported at Chief Street, allegedly involving that same Nissan ute which had failed to stop at the scene.
Patrols searched the area with the assistance of Police Dog Axe, who tracked down the suspected driver in the nearby golf course, where he was arrested.
Luckily, the occupants of the five vehicles were not seriously injured. One driver, a 55-year-old West Croydon woman, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a Cheltenham address a short time earlier.
It had also been involved a minor rear end collision with a vehicle stationary at traffic lights on Port Road just before 3.30pm. The other driver later reported the collision at a police station.
The driver of the stolen ute, a 44-year-old Woodville West man, was not injured in any of the collisions.
He recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.171 – more than three times the limit.
He was charged with drink driving, illegal use, speed dangerous, driving disqualified and fail to stop after a crash. Investigations are continuing.
The arrested man was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
