Storms, flooding and heavy rain forecast for parts of NSW

NSW SES

NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is urging communities to stay vigilant with the potential for severe weather hitting parts of the state from Wednesday until the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heavy rain and potential major riverine flooding for people in parts of Northern NSW from Thursday.

Flash flooding is also possible across the state, with the heaviest rain forecast to contract to the South East throughout the weekend.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey said with intense rain in excess of 150mm possible in some parts of Northern NSW, it was important for communities to be prepared.

“With the Bureau forecasting wild weather for large parts of NSW, it is important to plan now for what you will do,” Mr Storey said.

“Flash floods can happen anywhere after intense localised rain, and there may be no official warning.”

He said both flash and riverine floods can damage roads and paths, leaving potholes, sinkholes and other dangers.

“If you come across a flooded road, simply stop and turn back,” Mr Storey said.

“Never drive, ride or walk through floodwater.”
