Strathbogie’s youth thriving in new Youth Crews and FReeZA Crew

The groups have been meeting with Strathbogie Shire Council Youth Officer Annette Walton via online forums while there have been restrictions on gathering in large numbers.

It comes after Council recently put a callout for young people across the Shire to join the crews.

Tyler and Jordan Kippling joined the Strathbogie Shire FReeZA crew – the ICETRANAUTS – with a keen interest in music, both being members of the local band YNot.

Tyler described his involvement with the FReeZA Crew as great fun.

“It is really fun to make events happen and to play live music,” he said.

“We are learning how to write songs, run a PA and how to become better performers.”

Jordan reiterated Tyler’s comments and said it was great to learn new skills, put on events and learn all the details that are involved in making events happen.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said it was fantastic to see the Shire’s young people stepping up to be involved in the groups.

“We commend them for adapting to the current climate and continuing on during this challenging time where they have been unable to meet face-to-face,” Cr Raeburn said.

“Anyone aged 12-25 years can still register to be a part of the township-based Youth Crews or the FReeZA Crew, or both.”
