Strengthening Australia-US commercial ties

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic will promote Australia as an advanced and reliable commercial, science and technology partner during a visit to the United States from 25 January to 2 February.

The US is Australia’s third largest export market and the largest source of investment in Australia.

“The Australian Government works closely with the US to address supply chain challenges, explore investment opportunities and navigate the global transition to using clean energy,” Minister Husic said.

“As we continue to battle global challenges including climate change and the ongoing disruptive impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine, it is more important than ever to reinforce our partnership with the US to support a prosperous manufacturing sector and resilient supply chains.

“I’m looking forward to meeting key industry stakeholders and developing partnerships to advance Australia’s world-leading science capabilities and cutting-edge technological know-how.”

During the visit, Minister Husic will tour the Moderna pharmaceutical manufacturing and the MassRobotics facilities both in Massachusetts before travelling to Washington DC to meet policy makers.

Minister Husic will also attend a range of events including the American Australian Association’s G’Day USA business roundtable to deliver a speech on the Albanese Government’s industry and science priorities, and Austrade’s Landing Pad event where Australian tech-enabled start-ups will share their unique experiences.

“I’m eager to promote investment opportunities to major US industry players in ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconstruction Fund priority areas of the Australian economy, including our renewable and low-emission technologies, medical sciences and value adding to our agriculture, forestry, fisheries and resources sectors,” Minister Husic said.

“Discussions with industry leaders will boost Australia’s economic integration with the US, as well as inform our ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Quantum, Robotics and Battery Strategies to strengthen Australia’s economic prosperity and resilience.”
