Stride4Stroke this November

This November, Stroke Foundation is challenging the community to get moving, reducing their risk of stroke and raising funds to support stroke survivors.

Stride4Stroke is easy to be involved with; register, set your own activity goal and fundraising target to complete in the month, and go for it! No goal is too small.

Megan Smith, 36, will stride, or rather ride, in honour of her daughter Kaylah, 12. Kaylah suffered a stroke in January this year.

“It’s not well known that children can have strokes. Even I didn’t know, I thought this could never happen to Kaylah because she was young, fit and healthy,” Megan said.

“Through Stride4Stroke, my goal is to raise awareness about paediatric stroke, and funds for the Stroke Foundation to support others with their recovery.

“Most of us know someone who has been impacted by stroke, I think everyone should get involved and help fight this disease.”

Megan has set an activity goal of completing a 30 kilometre bike ride with the aim to raise $1000 during the month.

Stroke Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sharon McGowan applauded Megan for striding and encouraged others to join her.

“One in four of us will experience a stroke in our lifetime, there is one stroke in Australia every nine minutes,” Ms McGowan said.

“Stroke is no longer a death sentence for many, but for the stroke survivors and their families living in our community its impact is far reaching.

“With your support we will stand alongside stroke survivors and their families. We will support survivors and their families to live well after stroke.”

Every dollar raised through Stride4Stroke will have an enormous impact. It will go towards vital Stroke Foundation programs like our free telephone advice service StrokeLine (1800 787 653) and EnableMe, online support services which help survivors and their families transition to life back home after stroke and throughout the recovery journey.

This November who will you stride for? Get a team together for Stride4Stroke or do it by yourself. Set an activity and fundraising goal and go for it! Register now at www.stride4stroke.org.au
