Strike Force Chelston established to investigate shooting, NSW

Detectives are appealing for information from the public after a woman suffering a gunshot wound presented at Bankstown Hospital yesterday.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to Bankstown Hospital after a 37-year-old woman suffering a gunshot wound to her torso, was driven to the emergency department about 12.50pm yesterday (Thursday 12 January 2023).

Police have been told the woman was a passenger in a white sedan driven by a man described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 175cm tall, with a medium build, and a dark beard. At the time, he was wearing a black hoodie, black shorts over full-length black training tights.

The man left the area on foot shortly afterwards and police are seeking public information to locate him. A crime scene was established and the area canvassed, with the sedan seized for forensic examination.

The woman has since undergone surgery and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Strike Force Chelston, comprising detectives from Bankstown PAC and State Crime Command, has been formed to investigate the circumstances of how she came to be injured.

Inquiries so far indicate the woman was shot inside a home at Condell Park.

Specialist police continue to analyse that scene and canvass the neighbourhood for witnesses or any other evidence.
