Strike Force Monoceros arrests two after police pursuit at Dubbo, NSW

Two men have been arrested following a police pursuit in the state’s mid-west.

Between 12am and 4.30am (Saturday 26 November 2022), a silver Hyundai Tucson was allegedly stolen during an aggravated break and enter at a home on Ronald Street, Dubbo.

The vehicle was later used in a ramraid at commercial premises in Geurie.

Strike Force Monoceros was formed to investigate break, enter and steal offences within the Dubbo and surrounding areas.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District, working under Strike Force Monoceros, sighted the vehicle on North Street, Dubbo, about 12.30am (Sunday 27 November 2022).

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated when police lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, the vehicle was sighted on Minore Road, Dubbo, before continuing onto Young Street, where it crashed into a tree.

The occupants left the scene on foot but, with the assistance of the dog squad, two men were located a short distance away.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He’s been refused bail to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Sunday 27 November 2022).

A 19-year-old man was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash and remains under police guard.

Orana Mid-Western PD commander, Superintendent Daniel Sullivan, said further charges are expected to be laid.

“Investigations into break, enter and steal offences will continue under Strike Force Monoceros, and I appeal for anyone who may have any information to contact police.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe on our streets and my officers will continue to work closely with the community to uphold this right,” Supt Sullivan said.
