At approximately 4:10 pm on Sunday the 9th February 2020. Tasmanian Fire Service were called to a structure fire at 10 Stonehouse Street, George Town. On arrival, emergency services found the house well-alight and engulfed in flames.
The house was occupied, but with the assistance of neighbours emergency services were quickly able to ascertain that there was nobody inside the house upon their attendance. It was necessary to evacuate one neighbouring house due to heavy smoke contamination.
The scene has been examined by Tasmania Fire Service examiners and Tasmania Police detectives and forensic officers. The cause of the fire has been determined as being deliberately lit.
The house is owned by Housing Tasmania and the estimated value of damage is $200 000.
