Structure fire at Humpty Doo

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service attended to a structure fire at an education precinct in Humpty Doo overnight.

At around 11:15pm, NTFRS received notification of an automatic fire alarm at Taminmin College.

Crews from Palmerston fire station arrived approximately 18 minutes later and observed flames exiting from an exhaust fan on the roof.

“Upon entry, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus located the fire in a plant room containing an electrical switchboard with fire spreading,” said Assistant Chief Fire Officer Joshua Fischer.

“With additional support from Berrimah fire station, it took crews roughly an hour to extinguish the fire that had spread to adjoining rooms. There has also been extensive water damage due to firefighting operations and smoke damage due to the significant amount of smoke that was produced.”

The Department of Education closed the school today however, the school is expected to reopen tomorrow.

The fire has been deemed non-suspicious and investigations are underway to determine the cause.
