Whittlesea Township has been embraced with the Christmas spirit thanks to an artistic partnership between City of Whittlesea, Whittlesea Secondary College and Whittlesea Lions Club.
Trees along Church Street have been adorned with prints with the theme ‘Finding Hope at Christmas’.
The sensational drawing and printmaking class began planning and discussing the lino-cut artworks whilst in remote learning.
“All of the students in this class demonstrated a great deal of commitment to the project and we are so proud to produce artworks that can be displayed for the whole community to enjoy,” Performing Arts Curriculum Manager Kristen Jean said.
“We greatly appreciate the support from the Whittlesea Lions Club and Whittlesea Council that made this initiative possible. Whittlesea Secondary College loves to partner with the community.”
Whittlesea Lions President David Cordell said the club gave the school $500 towards the project.
“They’re fantastic, it makes the town look great and much brighter for Christmas,” Mr Cordell said.
The students said it was a great opportunity to brighten up their township for Christmas, especially after such a challenging year.
“I love to create art. Hopefully the prints are enjoyed by everyone in the community and it makes them happy, especially after the Co-vid situation,” Gracie said.
“I found the process enjoyable as it was something to look forward to after the remote learning period. Seeing our artwork in such a large scale in out township was humbling and I hope in fact it does bring hope and joy at the most wonderful time of the year,” Charli said.
“The printmaking process can be challenging however seeing so many people enjoy it and having received so much positive feedback makes it all worth it,” Jeremiah said.
