Swan Lake Inlet is home to an abundance of birdlife, however a different type of crane was sighted near the shore.
The 38m span steel truss bridge at Cudmirrah was lowered into place by a 450 tonne crane, creating a 2.5m wide shared user path over the Swan Lake Inlet.
Funded under the Federal Government’s Road Safety Program, the bridge is in response to community concerns about the existing vehicular bridge. The new pedestrian bridge will allow a separated route for pedestrians and cyclists, providing a safe access point across the waterway for residents and visitors to the area. In addition to the pedestrian bridge, the project also involves construction of a 75m raised walkway on the northern side and 130m of concrete shared user path.
In the coming weeks the bridge decking and the ‘Sussex Wave’ handrail will be installed. The ‘Sussex Wave’ handrail is unique to the area and is used on other infrastructure around Sussex Inlet.
Weather permitting, works are on track for completion by the end of July.
