Summary of Council’s 12 October Ordinary Meeting

Sportsground signage review

Council will receive a report which reviews the city’s existing sportsground naming signage and identifies ways to improve recognition of the history of those names.

A number of Wagga Wagga’s sportsgrounds have been named after prominent local sporting identities and a Notice of Motion to Council tonight outlined that a brief background on the grounds’ names would recognise the influence of these people on the city.

The report is expected to identify the age of the current signage at each venue and provide a schedule of when these signs are due for replacement, along with identifying how any new signage can provide acknowledgement of the history of the venue’s name.

Stable complex approved

Council has resolved to approve a development application for a $6.8M stable complex at Wagga Wagga’s Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC).

The development is for the construction and operation of a stable complex to accommodate up to 125 horses as part of the MTC precinct.

The facility will provide for the training, stabling and care of race horses in association with the operation of the existing racecourse.

The proposal also includes a veterinary clinic which will be used for the treatment and care of horses stabled within the facility.

The application was referred to Council for a decision after more than 10 submissions against the project were received.
