Report on short stay rental accommodation

Council resolved to prepare a report considering the impact of Airbnb and other short stay models on distorting rental markets, affordability, and intensifying housing shortages, and any strategies to mitigate problems that arise.

Council will also consider the establishment of an affordable housing trust.

Budget variations approved

Council approved the proposed 2022/23 budget variations for the month ended 31 December 2022 and the proposed budget variations to the 2022/23 Long Term Financial Plan Capital Works Program, including future year timing adjustments and new projects.

Operating and Capital Budget Variations for 31 December 2022 include:

  • Civic Centre Security Doors – $41,000
  • Australia Day Community Events 2023 Grant Program – $30,000
  • Museum External Lighting, Security Access, Fencing, and Signage – $87,000
  • Digital Storytelling Project Grant – $40,000
  • Bird Island Eco Art Installation – $30,000
  • Precious Exhibition – $10,000
  • Uranquinty Levee Upgrade – Investigation & Design – $112,000
  • Off-Street Carpark Renewal Program – $32,000
  • Central Wagga Laneway Renewal Program – $23,000

Requests for financial assistance

Council agreed to provide an additional $685 in financial assistance to the Palliative Care Enhancement Council.

RP-2 REQUESTS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Floodplain committee

Council accepted the minutes of the 15 December 2022 Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee and agreed to write to the NSW Government requesting that a government agency be assigned the role of identifying and implementing a long-term strategy and arrangements for large-scale community sheltering facilities and necessary services in the event of a natural disaster or large-scale emergency in the Wagga Wagga region.

Council will also write to the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Emergency Management Agency requesting its support for the proposed initiative.

Gurwood Street lease renewal

Council agreed to renegotiate entry into a lease with Relationships Australia and Mission Australia for an 18-month term with waived lease agreement costs.

Tarcutta food van site

Council agreed to enter into a licence agreement with Lynette May Craig, trading as Larmtwich, for exclusive rights to provide food and beverage services within the Tarcutta Truck Stop for three years.

Real estate agency services for RIFL subdivision

Council agreed to defer consideration of the provision of real estate agency services for the Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics subdivision, pending a councillor workshop.

Lord Baden Powell Drive

Council agreed to accept the tender of Turners Civil Pty Ltd for the Lord Baden Powell Drive design and construction for the lump sum price of $1,755,179 excluding GST.

Dunns Road, Olympic Highway and Holbrook Road intersections

Council agreed to enter into a contract for the design and construction of the Dunns Road, Olympic Highway and Holbrook Road intersections.

CONF-6 RFT2023-05 DUNNS ROAD, OLYMPIC HIGHWAY & HOLBROOK ROAD INTERSECTIONS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT

Lake Albert Road rehabilitation

Council agreed to enter into a contract with Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd for the road rehabilitation of Lake Albert Road from Warrawong Street to and including the Copland Street intersection.
