Summer Reading Club returns for 2019-2020

The Summer Reading Club (SRC) will launch at Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point libraries from Wednesday 4 December.

The program is open to children from pre-school to high school who are current members of the library. It aims to instil a continued love of reading, learning, creativity as children participate in the program and attend themed events at the library during the school holiday period.

This year’s theme, A Roomful of Stories, encourages children, young people and families to engage with stories and the language in which they are told. It also celebrates the International Year of Indigenous Language (IYIL) with a focus on the use of oral language story telling.

Kempsey Library’s Team Leader of Library Services, Angie Meers, said the SRC is a fun way for children to maintain their literacy skills while they are away from their formal school environment.

“Every book, comic, graphic novel or e-book that is read by a participant or is read aloud to them goes towards filling in a reading record sheet,” she said.

“Kids will hand in their completed reading records at the end of the program and will go in the running to win some great prizes.”

The Summer Reading Club is supported by FOLK (Friends of the Library Kempsey) who promote literacy programs in the Kempsey Shire.

A Summer Reading Club Launch Party will be held at Kempsey Shire Library on Wednesday 4 December from 3:30pm, which will feature the videos of local students who participated in the Tell Your Story competition.

Hand in your completed reading record at the library before 2:30pm on Thursday 23 January 2020 to get an entry into the draw for some great prizes.
