The two main types of snakes in Knox are the Lowland Copperhead and Tiger snake. Both will try to seek shelter if disturbed but are venomous so it is best to take care as you are walking and seek medical advice if you do get bitten.
Also, during the summer months avoid staking timber or building material too close to your home as they make good shelter for snakes. And take care when out walking your dog, consider keeping them on the lead especially near creeks, waterways and bushland areas.
Snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 so if you see a snake, don’t panic just back away to a safe distance and give it time to move away. Please remember, they are an important part of our natural environment and ecosystem.
Look out for our signs at known snake habitat areas.
